Let's Talk Hair: My Twist Out Technique

Hola Chicas/Chicos..ok, so I have been receiving quite a few requests on how I achieve my two strand twist out on facebook, on youtube and from people who I see while out and about...so I decided before I make an official video tutorial I would put it in cyber ink first. This is definitely my favorite protective style and it is a style that has promoted healthy hair growth. Hope you enjoy!

My Method to the Madness:

I begin with a fresh co washed head of hair that I have applied my leave in conditioner and carrier oil to seal in my moisture.
I then use my homemade butter and put my hair in a head full of two strand twists. If I want more defined twists, I use smaller two strand twists. If I want a chunkier twist out, I put my hair in larger twists. For this particular look, I used smaller two strand twists.

To achieve a twist out that hangs longer, on very damp hair, put your hair in twists and stretch by gently pulling your two strand twists. Another way to stretch is to use a blow dryer (heat is the enemy..) on a warm setting and stretch the twists while allowing to dry..but not fully dry.

After my hair is FULLY dry, I take down my twists using either a carrier oil (jojoba, grapeseed, castor, coconut, olive oil) or my homemade butter. You want to use some moisturizing agent to take the twists down. I unravel each twist one time so as not to create frizz...Voila! Fuller hair is achieved on day two or three of your twist out. Be sure to retwist either every night or every other night to maintain a hairstyle that you can rock for a few days. Hope you enjoy and achieve the results you love.

Happy Healthy Hair

  1. Wow! Your results are beautiful. How did you get your hair so black? Do you use indigo or is that natural?

  3. @ Anon 11:27, thank you..It's my natural color..but to achieve an absolute black, you can use henna, then use indigo afterwards, it will give you a rich black

  10. I love this tutorial on your twist out..I can't wait to see videos of your bushy twist out! I love that look. My twist out usually comes out frizzy, but it could be the products that I use and I don't deep condition as much as I should. Thank goodness for blogs like yours. I am really enjoying it. Keep it up
