The MISeducation of Natural Hair

Ok..here are some wonderful facts about Natural Hair that will hopefully educate those who have been negatively miseducated about Natural Hair:
  • There are 3 types of hair: Fine, Medium, Course
  • A nap is a tight Curl or Coil..why is it defined as something negative??
  • Since we have just been educated on what a nap is, please understand that blacks are not the only ethnic group with 'nappy' hair..and that's OK
  • Natural hair is not just limited to unkept masses of...uhmmm, well, masses of mess
  • Natural hair is not just limited to DREADLOCS
  • Natural hair should not be viewed as REVOLUTIONARY!! How can something that you were born with, that's not altered or manipulated, be deemed revolutionary??
  • All hair that is healthy, nourished and maintained is GOOD HAIR
  • Natural hair is not a stab at society...
  • Natural hair is not limited to people with certain types of hair texture..remember there are only 3 types
  • Every person who rocks natural hair do not like nor smell like oils and incense..come on now!!
  • Yes..Naturals do not worry about getting their hair wet or working out
  • Blacks are not the only ones who are natural..there are other ethnic groups who do not use chemicals nor heat to manipulate their texture
  • No..it should not be a war of naturals vs. non naturals..I do not condone that..seriously, why are you beefing
  • No..being natural is not just limited to rocking an afro..by the way, 'where's my pick?' lol
  • Naturals do maintain the health of their hair just like anyone else
  • All naturals are not versed in modern internet natural lingo: TWA, EVOO, BC, DC..what does all that mean??
  • Not all naturals have an afro pick with a fist on it...what??
  • Yes black women with natural hair grow long hair..as a matter of fact, the most beautiful longest hair that I've seen was on a beautiful black natural..sorry Crystal Gale :-(
  • Yes, naturals get tired of having to explain why they choose to honor, love and respect the hair that God blessed them with..actually we would like to know why some choose to alter it??? Hmmm
  • No..having a texturizer or a kiddy perm is not considered natural
  • No..using heat to manipulate your natural hair is not considered natural..a relaxer is chemical heat, flat irons are dry heat..they're both used to manipulate the 'natural' texture of your hair.
  • Being natural does not mean that we love ourselves anymore than those who choose to relax or dye their hair.
  • Natural hair is no more difficult to maintain than relaxed..hmmm, so why are naturals charged more at the salon...hey, hair stylist lady, we're on to you!!
  • Natural hair IS just as professional
  • Yes..naturals wash their hair..OFTEN..Many, sometimes 2-3 times per week.
  • Naturals co wash (conditioner wash) because using shampoo often has proven harsh, especially if it contains sulfates and cones. Conditioner washing provides the same clean, but with added moisture.
  • Naturals love carrier and essential oils because they are beneficial to hair and scalp...PERIOD
  • There are soooo many fun ways naturals can and do wear their hair.
